Afterglow 02:49
Paints you still on sluggish dreams. A fire light on the foothill side, Shines on still, as it seems. The shadows grew and the warmth it cried. A magic wrought of dying dreams. A wizard light that creeps and glows; Painting hills and sluggish streams, In tints of gold and rose. I’d like to leave an echo. I’d like to leave an afterglow. I’d like to leave an echo. I’d like to leave an afterglow. Staining with fire the cherry-snow, Lighting our hearts with sudden flame As if the love of long ago, Back from its ashes came. Rose-flushed and radiant, Joy and hope are born anew; Even the darting swallow's wing Has caught its glowing hue. Soon the horizon will hide today. The heart is wise but won’t let go; It's not love that lights our way – Only its afterglow. I’d like to leave an echo. I’d like to leave an afterglow. I’d like to leave an echo. I’d like to leave an afterglow. I’d like to leave an echo. I’d like to leave an afterglow. I’d like to leave an echo. I’d like to leave an afterglow.

Fall 03:08
You, you came along, And helped me write this song. Of feelings I never knew. Well, I’m looking at you now, And would you ever tell, That I am falling for you? Now I know that I am foolish to think this way. Just listen to your heart and hear what it says? Now, I know you’ve had your pain, But let me say it plain, That I would never hurt you. I’ve had myself played, By cheaters of the game, And so have you. And as you stand back and hear the sounds, Would you pack away your broken crowns? You, you shake me at the seams. You’re plucking down the beams, Of my house of cards. Sure as the stars above, Maybe you could love, Someone as awkward as me. And as you sip your tea and talk to me, Do you see a future shared with me? So, you'll sing your song of woe, I’ll sing my song of hope, And hope that you will see, That you and me could be, Better than we’ve been, And all the others in between. So don’t let the past write your now. What the future holds you can’t tell. Look at what you’ve done to me, Suddenly I see, That there is good in the world. You’ll never be average to me, In your eyes I see. Someone I’ve always know. So now this is your chance to hear me say, Will you stay with me? I hope and pray. Fall, fall into me, And I promise I will never let you go.

Softest Song 03:17
When all’s been said and all’s been done, I know that you are the only one. Now I’m weaker than a single tear. Settle down for another year. And I don’t know what to say, It doesn’t matter anyway. I paid the price for another man, A crime that really paints him well. He broke your heart and he broke mine too, His evil song played out through you. And I don’t know what to say, It doesn’t matter anyway. And now the truth’s revealed to you, My hurting heart’s been split in two. Upon my lips I feel your ghost, And now I wonder who you loved most. And I don’t know what to say, It doesn’t matter anyway. The wind in my hair, Tells me change is never rare. And the clouds up high, Glide on by as they hear me sigh. And the call in my heart, Beckons me to make a brand new start. And I’ve nothing left to say, It doesn’t matter anyway. Now spring has come and sun is new, Yet still my mind returns to you. And even though the sky is blue, The day is done for me and you. And I don’t know what to say, It doesn’t matter anyway. When all’s been said and all’s been done, I know that you are the only one. Now I’m weaker than a single tear. All alone for another year.

Looking, looking at the sky, Watching the clouds roll by, And all I can do is sigh. The morning, the morning mildew, Wash eight shy years from you. ‘Cause it’s a little, a little, Cloud full of rain. Do it for you, For no-one else can, Cure you, From your lifespan. Do it for you, For no-one else can, Cure you. ‘Cause it’s a little, a little, Cloud full of rain. A lonely reed, standing in a pond, As the wind waves it wand, And chills your bonds. A snow flake, a snow flake falls on you, As fortunes left you blue. ‘Cause it’s a little, a little, Cloud full of rain. And now whose eyes, In what picture shall I marry? How heavy the burden I carry. There’s no more use now, Sadly. ‘Cause it’s a little, a little, 'Cause I'm a little, a little, Cloud full of rain.

Floating down the stream, On the banks I see blue and green. Hanging on leaves of willow, Are the thoughts found in a pillow. Oh, the nights are so long, But hold on to that riverbank dream. Looking in the deep, There's wisdom in its keep. There's a man; all alone he weeps, Hush now stranger you may sleep. Oh, the nights are so long, But hold on to that riverbank dream. We’re all in motion. Yet the river runs on. The tide keeps on flowing. I cannot see. The river of time erodes so much. Floating down the stream, On the banks I see blue and green. Hanging on leaves of willow, Are the thoughts found in a pillow. Oh, the nights are so long, But hold on to that riverbank dream.

Well there were three old men in a line, Playing in tunes in time, Singing songs of rhyme, Playing from one until nine.

Daybreak 04:01
Rose tinted dawn. You look so forlorn, Crying on the lawn, When the morning’s born. Standing on the edge, The moon is just a wedge. Just beyond the hedge, The morning’s on the ledge. Maybe things will be better by daybreak, The sun in the sky shines on through. Maybe things will be better by daybreak, The sun in the sky shines on through. Maybe things will be better by daybreak, The sun in the sky shines on through. Heavy heart and mind, Begin to unwind. Through the thoughts of night, Come out the brightest sights. Rainbows paint our lives, As they do the skies. When darkness dives, We know we’re alive. Maybe things will be better by daybreak, The sun in the sky shines on through. Maybe things will be better by daybreak, The sun in the sky shines on through. Maybe things will be better by daybreak, The sun in the sky shines on through. Find yourself and do no wrong. Find yourself across the sky. Find yourself and do no wrong. Find your way back home. Maybe things will be better by daybreak, The sun in the sky shines on through. Maybe things will be better by daybreak, The sun in the sky shines on through. Maybe things will be better by daybreak, The sun in the sky shines on through. Maybe thing will be better by daybreak, The sun in the sky shines on through.

Born of love, But time’s been though. Keep your eyes up, Watch the Hunter’s Moon. Autumn’s past its line, And you have too. But remember this: You complete me. Playing cards with chance, And he has an ace. Do you think of ways, Of how to wish for choice? Autumn’s past its line, And you have too. But remember this: You complete me. Don’t you think that you don’t have a home? I put my hands upon the glass for you. Walking down the darkest streets to you, Because you complete me. So you know the truth, This song’s for two: Both coloured blue, Both shining through. Autumn’s past its line, And you have too. But remember this: You complete me, You complete me, You complete me, Oh, you complete me!
9.
Take me somewhere, anywhere. Take me somewhere far from here. Take me somewhere where I care, Where I can think and I can feel. We’re going slow. Oh don’t you know: This ain’t the way. Down sets the sun; Gone is the day. Show me a life where all is fair. Where happiness lies and pain is rare. Green are woes when the soul is bare, Take me somewhere, anywhere. We’re going slow. Oh don’t you know: This ain’t the way. Down sets the sun; Gone is the day. Who am I supposed to be? Dark are all sides surrounding me. I need a place now to be free; Take me somewhere, where I can be. We’re going slow. Oh I don’t know: Show me the way, Up through the dawn, To the bright day.

Two Days Ago 02:50
Just two days ago, you said you’d love me; You said you would and always will. Just two days ago a girl did love me, Now she's gone and the nights are still. Oh, things are gone, And now two days feel so long. What did I do that was wrong? Now just some words in a song. Oh, they’re gone. Two days long. Her name was written in the stars and your eyes. Forever after a missing chapter. A love destroyed by parental lies. And as the night fades, well, so does the laughter. Oh, things are gone, And now two days feel so long. What did I do that was wrong? Now just some words in a song. Oh, they’re gone. Two days long. With a heavy heart and a teary eye, We part and say goodbye. And with a heavy heart and a teary eye, We learn to fly. Now fly! Oh, you’re gone. Two days wrong.

Violet 03:15

about

With his debut album, 'Afterglow', Robert Barnett has recorded his earliest work from his first days as a fledgling singer-songwriter, reflecting on love, loss, and the inner turmoil many of us feel. Recorded during the lockdown of 2020, Barnett has embraced the lo-fi approach to recording - the whole album was recorded with a single microphone, with Barnett opting to record and produce the entire album. With just a guitar, harmonica, voice, poetic lyrics, and virtuosic fingerstyle guitar playing, 'Afterglow' creates a distinct brand of pastoral, melancholic folk music, echoing 1960s and 1970s sounds with universal contemplations and woes.
